Who is eligible to apply for the IUOE Local 150 Scholarship Fund, Inc.?

Any dependent of a Local 150 card-carrying member in good standing that is either a senior in high school or attending a college is eligible to apply for the scholarship. Please note that grandchildren of a Local 150 member are not eligible to apply unless the grandparent is the dependents primary guardian.

In addition, the following candidates will NOT be considered: Any dependent of current employees, officers, or elected officials of IUOE, Local 150, AFL-CIO or its related entities, including but not limited to ASIP, MOE funds, CRF, Credit Union, and all other related entities as determined by the Board of Trustees of IUOE, Local 150 Food Bank Trust, Inc.

Can winners use the scholarship for graduate degrees?

No, scholarships cannot be applied to graduate degrees. Scholarships can only be applied to undergraduate studies.

How are the winners of the IUOE Local 150 Scholarship Fund, Inc. determined?

The IUOE Local 150 Scholarship Fund, Inc. is not a needs-based scholarship. Applications are ranked based on academics, standardized test scores, extracurricular activities, and personal references to determine the winners of the scholarship. Applicants who do not submit all of the required materials are considered ineligible for the scholarship. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that all required documents are submitted to the Scholarship Committee. 

When does the IUOE Local 150 Scholarship Fund, Inc. start accepting applications?

The IUOE Local 150 Scholarship Fund, Inc. begins accepting applications in October. Apply online by downloading the required documents on the Scholarship Information page and upload your completed documents on the Submit Application Documents page.

When are IUOE Local 150 Scholarship Fund, Inc. applications due and can I apply after the deadline?

Scholarship applications are due no later than the 3rd Tuesday in February preceding the start of the school year (February 20, 2024). Applications must be submitted by that time unless you have contacted the Scholarship Committee with a specific date that the application will be submitted.

How many scholarships are given out by the IUOE Local 150 Scholarship Fund, Inc. Committee?

The IUOE Local 150 Scholarship Fund, Inc. Committee awards twenty-nine scholarships per year: 16-$3,300 4-year degree scholarships renewable for 3 years; 8-$2,750 2-year degree scholarships renewable for 1 year; 4-$5,500 2-year mechanic tech degree scholarships renewable for 1 year; and 1-$500 Work Boot non-renewable needs based scholarship.

If I am awarded a scholarship, how do I receive the scholarship funds each school year?

If you are a recipient of a scholarship, you must renew your scholarship annually with evidence that you maintained a 3.00 grade point average on a 4.00 scale and continue to be enrolled as a full-time student in a two-year associate’s school, two-year equipment/mechanic technician school, or a four-year undergraduate program in an accredited college or university.

What are the requirements to compete an application?

To complete the IUOE Local 150 Scholarship Fund, Inc. application, each applicant must submit

  1. Completed 7-page application
  2. Two personal reference forms
  3. Official high school and/or college transcript

When will I find out whether or not I won a scholarship?

The Scholarship Committee will begin mailing out letters to applicants in the beginning of May notifying applicants if they are a recipient of a scholarship.

What happens if the Scholarship Committee is unable to get in touch with a winner?

In the event the Scholarship Committee is unable to get in touch with a winner, the scholarship will be passed on to the next applicant in line to win the scholarship after several attempts have been made to contact the winner. It is the responsibility of the applicant to have the correct contact information and address listed so that the Scholarship Committee is able to contact the winner.

Is the scholarship available to students attending a technical or vocational school?

Yes, the IUOE Local 150 Scholarship Fund, Inc. awards 4 scholarships to those who attend 2-year mechanic tech college.

Are there any financial criteria for this scholarship?

No, financial criteria is not required to be awarded a scholarship. Although the Scholarship Committee does look at financial need, the scholarship is ultimately determined by qualifications. 

If I am awarded a scholarship from IUOE Local 150 Scholarship Fund, Inc., how do I renew each year to continue to receive the scholarship?

In order to receive your scholarship each year, you must submit an unofficial transcript by July 1st of the year following your scholarship award. Continued eligibility includes evidence that you maintained a 3.00 grade point average on a 4.00 scale. In addition, you must also submit proof of continued enrollment as a full-time student in a two-year associates or four-year undergraduate degree program at an accredited college or university.
